Arrow Engineered Products’ roots in the metalworking industry go all the way back to 1923, when our forefathers started a tradition of providing tech-based solutions of the utmost quality. We’ve followed their example since those early days and work to continuously improve to meet the high standards of our customers.
Implementing robust quality programs is one of the most important ways our team delivers on our commitment to high-quality products and exceptional service, which form the foundation of our business philosophy. Arrow’s quality programs, including Arrow Engineered Products’ (AEP) recently awarded CSA Standard N285.0-23, comply with the demanding requirements of industry-specific codes, guidelines, and standards, as well as jurisdictional and client expectations.
Congratulations to Lucas Lorentz, Quality Manager for Arrow Engineered Products, and his team for driving the N285 audit to a successful completion!
What Is CSA Standard N285.0?
CSA N-Series standards address various aspects of nuclear energy systems in Canada. CSA N285 contains stringent requirements to ensure components used in nuclear power plants, such as pressure vessels, piping, pumps, and valves, meet the highest safety and quality standards, helping to mitigate risks associated with operating nuclear reactors.
As a CSA N285 Certified Nuclear Material Provider, our AEP team is authorized to supply reliable, high-quality, fully traceable materials and components, including pressure retaining systems in CANDU nuclear power plants that meet stringent nuclear industry standards.
This designation also helps ensure our customers receive safety-compliant materials tailored for these critical applications, minimizing risks associated with nuclear applications.

Rule of Thumb for CSA Standard N285
N285 certification goes beyond general power piping certification under ASME B31.1, the standard rule of thumb for which is typically three connections.
CSA N285 expands on this by emphasizing the higher safety and quality requirements inherent in nuclear applications. Here, the rule of thumb would be that anything touching critical pressure-retaining components within five connections is considered within the scope of the compliance standards in N285 guidelines.
For example, AEP technicians can confirm that the quality, chemical composition and mechanical properties in nuclear applications are compliant with N285 safety and quality guidelines.
Additionally, our team has the capability to carry out rigorous assessments, audits, and compliance checks on nuclear reactor components and systems to ensure they adhere to the standards outlined in CSA N285:
- Ensure that fabrication, non-destructive testing (NDT), and quality assurance processes involving nuclear components meet the strict standards of N285
- Conduct comprehensive safety, integrity, and quality inspections during and after the fabrication process, including pressure tests, ultrasonic inspections, and radiographic examinations as per the appropriate specification
- Implement robust quality assurance programs that encompass all elements of the design, manufacturing and maintenance of nuclear components and systems
AEP brings deep expertise in the nuclear sector, delivering high-quality, certified nuclear-grade solutions that meet the industry’s strictest energy standards, including compliance with CSA N285. With multiple CANDU refurbishments underway and the rise of SMR and new-build projects—particularly in Ontario—AEP’s proven ability to supply safe, reliable components, systems, and equipment enhances both the efficiency and safety of Canada’s growing clean energy sector.
“AEP’s willingness to invest and take the next step in strengthening our support for the nuclear sector demonstrates our commitment to this growing industry.” says Liz Akeroyd, Director of Business Development.
